Workdays calculator
Count working days between two dates, or find a date a set number of workdays before or after a starting date. Choose your working week and enter holidays or closures that apply to you.
Your dates · Your working week
Dates use YYYY-MM-DD. The defaults are an editable example, not today.
Optional. Supply your own public holidays, observed holidays or closures. None are added automatically. Duplicate dates apply once. Exclusions on nonworking weekdays are not deducted twice.
1900 through 2099; dates at most 3,660 days apart. Add or subtract up to 1,000 workdays within that range. Up to 200 excluded dates.

Applied rules
- Working weekdays: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.
- 0 unique excluded dates supplied. Duplicate dates apply once; dates on nonworking weekdays are not subtracted twice. No public or observed holidays are added automatically.
- Start included; end included. If both dates are the same, both settings must include it for that date to count.
- Calendar dates only, without time-of-day, time-zone, partial-day or statutory deadline rules. Calendar days = workdays + nonworking weekdays + excluded dates. Boundary-excluded dates and day 0 are outside that total.
This is a calendar-date calculation using your working week and exclusions. It does not determine statutory, court, banking or contract deadlines, partial days, work hours or leave entitlement. Inputs stay in your browser.

Method
How to count working days
Workdays = included calendar dates − nonworking weekdays − excluded dates on working weekdays
From Monday, January 5 through Friday, January 16, 2026, including both dates, there are 12 calendar dates and 10 workdays on a Monday-to-Friday schedule. Excluding January 6 leaves 9 workdays. Excluding a Saturday does not remove another workday.
For a target date, the start is day 0. One workday after Friday, January 9, 2026 is Monday, January 12. If you also exclude January 12, the target becomes Tuesday, January 13. These examples use an entered schedule, not an official holiday calendar.
Examples
Workdays and calendar days
Monday-to-Friday working week, no excluded dates unless stated.
| Task | Inputs | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Count a week | Jan 5–9, 2026; include both dates | 5 workdays |
| Exclude the first date | Jan 5–9, 2026; exclude Jan 5 | 4 workdays |
| Add one workday | After Friday, Jan 9, 2026 | Monday, Jan 12 |
| Subtract one workday | Before Monday, Jan 12, 2026 | Friday, Jan 9 |
| Add one with a closure | After Jan 9; exclude Jan 12 | Tuesday, Jan 13 |
Common questions
Choosing your calendar rules
Are start and end dates included?
In count mode, both are included by default. You can exclude either boundary. If they are the same date, both switches must include it for that date to count. The date must also be a selected working weekday and not an excluded date. Boundary-excluded dates stay in the ledger but are outside the calendar-date total.
Does adding workdays count the start date?
No. The start is day 0. The calculator moves one date at a time, counting only selected working weekdays that are not excluded. Subtract mode follows the same rule backwards. Adding or subtracting zero returns the original date, even if it is a weekend or excluded date.
Can I use a Friday–Saturday weekend or a part-time schedule?
Yes. Select the weekdays that count as working days. For a Friday–Saturday weekend, select Sunday through Thursday. For a part-time schedule, select only the weekdays you work. At least one weekday must be selected. This counts whole calendar dates and does not estimate work hours.
Are public and observed holidays automatic?
No. Enter the dates your calendar excludes, one YYYY-MM-DD date per line. Include any observed dates or company closures yourself. Duplicate entries apply once. Dates on nonworking weekdays are not deducted again. Valid dates outside the counted range do not affect the result; the summary shows how many exclusions did not remove a workday.
Do leap years and daylight-saving changes affect the result?
Leap days are included when they fall in the range and pass your working-week and exclusion rules. All inputs are calendar dates, without a clock time or time zone. A daylight-saving change does not shorten or lengthen the count of calendar dates.
Is this a legal, court or banking deadline calculator?
It applies only the weekdays, boundaries and excluded dates you enter. It does not interpret jurisdiction rules, contracts, bank processing, submission cutoffs, statutory deadlines or rules that roll a deadline to another day. Establish those rules separately before relying on a date for such a purpose.
Can I check every date or save the result?
The daily ledger shows each date, why it was counted or skipped, and the running workday total. Use its arrows to view 31 rows at a time. The copy icon saves the summary and applied rules; the download icon exports every row to CSV. An invalid date or rule blocks the result and export. Your inputs stay in your browser.
